Held from 13-14 May, the 2025 Kälte Kolloquium in Munich set a new benchmark for technical excellence and industry networking. With the theme of “Sustainable refrigeration systems for food,” the two-day event took attendees on a journey through innovation, from in-depth seminars to star-studded networking. Spread across three unique venues including the Science Congress Centre in Garching, the ESO Supernova Planetarium and Visitor Centre, and TÜV SÜD’s cutting-edge lab in Olching, this year's edition attracted 87 participants.
Organised by Eurovent Certification and Eurovent Association, in partnership with Gerhard Frei from COOLPLAN, supported by Roland Handschuh and media partners cci Dialog GmbH, KKA and Klima Journal, the event provided an interstellar line up of presenters across the realm of refrigeration.
The day began with refreshments and networking before Sylvain Courtey, President of Eurovent Certification, welcomed attendees and paid tribute to the late Tim Kroeger. Moderator for the event, Gerhard Frei from COOLPLAN, next ran through the plan for the day ahead, teasing at the technical seminars including:
KEYNOTE – ENOUGH Project – Strategies and Concepts for Reducing Emissions in the Food Cold Chain
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Armin Hafner, Norwegian University of Science and Technology
Refrigeration system for heat supply - using synergies
Georg Wartelsteiner, Eckert & Partner Beratende Ingenieure GmbH
Turn key water loop concepts in food retailing
Markus Kielnhofer, AHT Cooling Systems GmbH
Efficient air curtain systems as thermal barriers
Benjamin Meißner, Frico GmbH
Efficient catering refrigeration technology in the Allianz Arena
Christian Kraus, Dussmann Kälte- und Klimatechnik GmbH - KED
Sustainable NH3 cooling technology for HoWe sausage products
Richard Dogan, Amberger Kühltechnik GmbH
Large heat pump with industrial waste heat recovery
Christoph Mudra, Johnson Controls Systems & Service GmbH
Building trust in product performance through Eurovent Certification
Sylvain Courtey, Eurovent Certification
To close the session, Peter Schnepf of TÜV SÜD introduced the following day’s lab visit, before Gerhard set the scene for an evening under the stars.
The evening continued with a short stroll to the nearby ESO Supernova Planetarium, where Julian Janßen from Jinjan – Clima consulting delivered a final talk on Innovative planning approach using simulations, offering insights into the HVAC design behind the centre itself.
After an immersive planetarium show and access to freely roam the exhibition, guests enjoyed rooftop cocktails, dinner, and relaxed conversation beneath the stars.
While day one provided the opportunity to dive into the latest technical challenges with key industry players, day two shifted focus to testing and certification with a guided tour of TÜV SÜD’s state-of-the-art laboratory in Olching.
Splitting into groups, delegates explored:
The tour gave a fascinating insight into product testing and certification, at TÜV SÜD's epicentre for HVACR testing activities.
The event wrapped up with a relaxed three-course meal at Hotel Restaurant Gross in Bergkirchen offering one last chance to connect and reflect on two incredible days of learning and networking.
