Certified sustainable: new one-stop-shop for environmental data

Apr 1, 2026

With the market increasingly demanding robust environmental information for procurement, reporting, and regulatory readiness, Eurovent Certification has launched a new Sustainability Department. Created as a one-stop-shop to support manufacturers across a growing range of sustainability topics, the department is initially focused on EPD and LCA services, while laying the groundwork for broader support in environmental data, methodology harmonisation, and future sustainability requirements.

Environmental data challenges

The HVACR sector sits within a fragmented landscape - standards and guidelines are not always consistent across different countries and are sometimes misaligned even within the same sector. This lack of harmonisation can result in inconsistent environmental data.

In addition, challenges such as variable and complex methodologies, data and supply‑chain gaps, and HVACR‑specific technical issues like refrigerants and use‑phase energy modelling, can make the creation of EPDs and LCAs a burden for manufacturers. Throw regulatory uncertainty into the mix and add in the significant cost, time and resources required to produce EPDs and to keep them up-to-date, and it soon becomes clear that it is essential to rely on an organisation capable of mastering all the variables involved.

Unlocking Environmental Product Declarations

Lead by Sustainability Director, Alejandro Fernández De Mera, and LCA Lead, Fabián Andrés Diaz Sanchez, Eurovent Certification’s new services aim to simplify environmental data by offering manufacturers a structured, one-stop-shop approach to EPDs and LCAs, tailored specifically to HVACR products. The department’s first service offering focuses on environmental data and lifecycle methodologies, with EPDs and LCAs as the initial priority areas. Over time, Eurovent Certification intends to expand this support to address a broader range of sustainability-related needs across the HVACR sector.

A new end-to-end EPD service has been launched including data scoping, Life Cycle Assessment modelling, EPD drafting aligned with recognised standards such as EN 15804 and ISO 14025, support with programme operator selection, verification coordination, and publication. By structuring the process from start to finish, and aligning with certified data, Eurovent Certification helps manufacturers produce high-quality, programme operator compliant EPDs while reducing administrative complexity.

Turning lifecycle data into product insight

In addition to EPD development, Eurovent Certification is offering dedicated Life Cycle Assessment services to help manufacturers gain deeper insights into the environmental impacts of their products. LCA studies enable manufacturers to identify environmental hotspots across the product lifecycle, compare design or sourcing scenarios, and build robust sustainability baselines for product portfolios. The service includes PEF-ready lifecycle studies aligned with the European Commission’s Product Environmental Footprint methodology, advanced lifecycle modelling for Ecodesign and portfolio strategy, and scenario analysis to test potential improvements.

Harmonising HVACR environmental data

Beyond individual projects, Eurovent Certification is working with the industry to improve the consistency and usability of sustainability data. Eurovent Certification’s approach aligns with recommendations from Eurovent Association and aims to support greater harmonisation of lifecycle methodologies, improved comparability of environmental data, and increased automation of sustainability workflows.

These efforts are designed to help manufacturers prepare for future digital frameworks and simplify the management of product environmental information.

Supporting the industry’s sustainability transition

With deep expertise in HVACR certification and testing, Eurovent Certification provides manufacturers with independent, technically robust sustainability support. By combining industry knowledge with structured lifecycle methodologies, the new department is designed to support the HVACR sector’s wider sustainability transition. EPDs and LCAs are the first services being rolled out, forming the basis for a broader sustainability offering that will evolve with market, industry, and regulatory needs. Sustainability services are open to certified and non-certified manufacturers. Discover more at www.eurovent-certification.com
