Eurovent Certification places high value on collaboration to help support industries reliant on the HVACR sector. Professional institutes and associations play a key role in knowledge sharing and promoting high standards throughout their relevant sectors. To help support the retail industry, Eurovent Certification has recently joined the EHI Retail Institute - a research, education and consulting organisation, with headquarters in Cologne, Germany.
The EHI operates with approximately 80 staff and maintains an international network of around 850 member companies from retail, consumer goods, capital goods, and services sectors. It is one of the best organised knowledge networks in the entire German-speaking retail industry, and lives by the mantra ‘From the trade for the trade’.
EHI’s core mission is to provide data-driven insights, conduct empirical research and foster industry exchange on topics such as e-commerce, store design, payment systems, logistics, energy and refrigeration in retail, and digital transformation. The institute organises expert working groups (“Arbeitskreise”) to bring together practitioners from leading retail companies on specialised themes including Climate & Energy, which includes refrigeration technology.
Beyond research and networking, EHI also provides certifying services, publishes market and trend studies, runs an active technical event programme and partners with major trade fairs (such as EuroShop) to shape the future of retail investment goods and technologies.
As a Supporting Member of the EHI, membership provides significant value to Eurovent Certification by connecting it to a powerful network of leading retailers, manufacturers, and service providers across Europe. Supporting Members gain exclusive access to high-quality research, market data, white papers and benchmarking studies that inform strategic decisions on topics such as digitalisation, energy efficiency, logistics, and refrigeration in retail. Through EHI’s expert working groups and conferences, members can share best practices, influence industry standards, and collaborate on innovative solutions to sector challenges.
Eurovent Certification partticipated in the Supermarket Cooling Exchange ("Erfahrungsaustausch der Supermarktkälte"), organised by EHI, VDMA, Fachverband Allgemeine Lufttechnik, and Fachgruppe Kühlmöbel on 29th October 2025.
The event brought together experts from industry, retail, trade, and research to discuss current developments, technical challenges, and future topics in food retail refrigeration and air conditioning. Eurovent Certification’s Head of Refrigeration Department, Thomas Michineau, presented a comprehensive overview of Ecodesign & Energy Label requirements, covering:
The presentation explained how certification plays a crucial role in helping manufacturers navigate compliance whilst demonstrating verified performance to the market.
Championing the work of organisations such as the EHI Retail Institute, is an important link in strengthening relationships between the retail sector and HVACR industry. Membership fosters knowledge sharing and collaboration, helping retail businesses make good HVACR product decisions that aid decarbonisation and deliver on performance. We look forward to supporting the aims of the EHI through membership and look forward to the opportunities to collaborate ahead.
