Commercial refrigeration workshop: collaboration in action

On 8th October, Eurovent Certification organised a dedicated workshop on commercial refrigeration at a prestigious venue in the heart of Paris. The event brought together some of Europe’s leading refrigerated display cabinet (RDC) manufacturers, retailers, testing laboratories and certification experts to discuss the current challenges facing the RDC sector and the future of the Eurovent Certified Performance for Refrigerated Display Cabinets programme.

The event opened with a welcome address by Sylvain Courtey, President of Eurovent Certification, who highlighted the importance of collaboration across the refrigeration value chain to address future market challenges.

Massimiliano Ferrario, representing Eurovent Association, delivered an insightful overview of the regulatory landscape, covering the latest developments in the ongoing Ecodesign and Energy Labelling reviews, as well as key expectations for the years ahead.

Cheikh Faye, Project Manager at Eurovent Certification, presented the current certification framework and provided attendees with a detailed overview of the certification rules and requirements.

Marta Ruiz de Lara, HVAC Facility Manager at CEIS Laboratory, presented CEIS Lab’s activities, with a particular focus on EN ISO 23953-2, the reference standard underpinning the commercial refrigeration certification programme.

Christian Heerup, Business Manager for Refrigeration at DTI, shared valuable insights into the challenges associated with performance testing. He emphasised the importance of independent certification and presented the results of tests conducted on behalf of a market surveillance authority, demonstrating a significant discrepancy between Eprel claims and tested performance.

During the afternoon session, Thomas Michineau, Head of the Refrigeration Department at Eurovent Certification, presented the current market context and introduced the programme’s three-year roadmap. This was followed by an interactive workshop where manufacturers and retailers exchanged views and provided valuable feedback on the proposed initiatives and future developments.

The event concluded with a networking session that further strengthened dialogue between stakeholders and reinforced a shared ambition to continue advancing the industry together.

An action plan summarising the key outcomes and next steps will be drawn up and shared with all participants.

If you were unable to attend this first Refrigerated Display Cabinet (RDC) Workshop but would like to contribute to future activities and discussions, please do not hesitate to contact Thomas Michineau.
