"Eurovent Certification Programmes - Using the example of heat exchanger certification - advantages compared to the use of non-certified products."

Eurovent Certification has released the first technical presentation from its highly praised EUROVENT KÄLTE KOLLOQUIUM in Germany. The presentation acts as an introduction to the world of third-party product performance certification, complete with two case studies touching on the murky subject of heat exchanger underperformance.

About the EUROVENT KÄLTE KOLLOQUIUM

Over two days, from 4th - 5th June 2024, operators, planners and manufacturers explored reliable refrigeration systems for the cold chain, "From Farm to Supermarket". A comprehensive technical programme took delegates from theory to practical, with a mix of seminars and excursions, perfectly blended to encourage learning, discussion and networking in inspiring surroundings.

Organised by Eurovent Certification and COOLPLAN, with media partners CCI and KKA, day-one was hosted at the historic Kloster Eberbach near Wiesbaden. The extensive technical programme scrutinised the latest trends in refrigeration, decarbonisation and boldly tackled issues such as underperformance and its impact on food quality and energy efficiency.

Day-two put the theory into practice, with the chance to go explore cold food chain technology in its natural habitat, with excursions to a green farming market and NH3/CO2 logistics warehouse.

"Eurovent Certification Programs - Using the example of heat exchanger certification - advantages compared to the use of non-certified products."

The first presentation on day-one was by Eurovent Certification’s very own Sales Manager, Tim Kröger. The presentation took delegates on a whistlestop tour of the world of third-party product certification, and the range of cold chain products that can be certified. After talking a little about Eurovent Certification as a company and the importance of building trust within the industry, Tim launched into a typical certification process, emphasising the importance of certifying not just the product, but selection software and the manufacturing process also.

Tim then touched on the murky subject of underperformance, hammering home the point that corrective action is required if products do not meet manufacturer claims. In what has become one of Tim’s trademark sayings, he emphasised to the audience that Eurovent Certified Performance must be earned and cannot be bought.

Tim next moved onto two case studies. The first, featuring a certified evaporator vs a non-certified evaporator, got the audience involved in a direct comparison of product data. With the delegates themselves pointing out discrepancies, it soon became apparent that the independently verified, certified data was the one to trust.

The second case study featured a certified vs non-certified dry cooler. Tim pointed out the impact that an underperforming dry cooler can have on the rest of the system, with the chiller and the dry cooler fans having to work harder to compensate. A direct comparison in annual energy consumption opened eyes to the efficiency losses, energy costs and increased carbon footprint that an underperforming system brings. The case studies showed how certification acts as a differentiator between products and gives peace of mind to the customer and end user.

With the benefits for specifiers and operators covered, Tim moved on to the benefits for manufacturers, such as access to reports from Eurovent Market Intelligence and digital services from ProdBIM. Thanking the audience for their time, Tim finished by asking the audience for questions.
