Scope of the programme

This certification programme is divided into three sub-programmes:

  • AC1: comfort units with cooling capacity up to 12 kW
  • AC2: comfort units with cooling capacity from 12 to 50 kW
  • AC3: comfort units with cooling capacity from 50 to 100 kW

This programme applies to factory-made units intended to produce cooled air for comfort air conditioning (AC1, AC2, AC3). It also applies to units intended for both cooling and heating by reversing the cycle.

AC1 programme

Are included in the AC1 scope:

  • Multi-split with data declared and published as combination of outdoor and indoor units with 2 indoor units only: each unit individually connected to the outdoor unit and with an expansion device inside the outdoor unit. The 2 indoor units have to be of the same mounting type. Capacity ratio must be 1 ± 0.05.
  • Declaring Water-cooling units

Are excluded from the AC1 scope:

  • Variable Refrigerant flow Systems
  • AC1 multi-split with 3 or more indoor units
  • Single duct mono-bloc mobile air conditioners;
  • Packaged combined air conditioning and control mechanical ventilation;
  • Air conditioners up to 12 kW not fulfilling the requirements of Regulation 206/2102

AC2 & AC3 programmes

Are included in the AC2 and AC3 scopes:

  • Split units
  • Multisplit units, with data declared and published of the outdoor unit. The programme covers multisplit units combined with the same type of indoor units. The number of indoor units is limited as 2. Combinations with 3 or more indoor units are optional.
  • The maximum of indoor units is prescribed below:
Capacity 12 kW ≤ capacity < 30 kW  30 kW ≤ capacity < 50 kW capacity ≥ 50
Number of indoor units 4 6 8

Each combination is composed by one outdoor unit (and its declared values) and associated indoor units:

  • Of the same mounting type: ducted or cassettes or wall mounted, but not a mix of types.
  • Within the same mounting type of the same indoor units range.
  •  If a sytem capacity ratio of 100 + / - 5 % can be reached : the number of indoors as described in Table 1 shall be used all with the same size of indoor units
  • If a system capacity ratio of 100 + / - 5 % with the same size indoor units cannot be reached: sizes as similar as possible with the number of indoor units as close as possible but not more than the prescribed number in Table 1 shall be used to meet the system capacity ratio within 100 + /- 5%

Are excluded from the AC2 & AC3 scope:

  • Variable Refrigerant flow Systems (see differences with ACs in the Rating Standards 6/C/001A & 6/C/001)
  • AC2 and AC3 multisplits with data declared and published as combinations of outdoor+indoors
  • Single duct mono-bloc mobile air conditioners;
  • Packaged combined air conditioning and control mechanical ventilation;
  • Units not fulfilling the requirements of Regulation 2016/2281 (see APPENDIX D).

Participating Companies must certify all production models within the scope of the programme they enter. However concerning multi-split air conditioners only systems with two indoor units are included.

Definitions

Air conditioner
A device capable of cooling or heating, or both, indoor air, using a vapour compression cycle driven by an electric compressor, including air conditioners that provide additional functionalities such as dehumidification, air purification, ventilation or supplemental air heating by means of electric resistance heating, as well as appliances that may use water (either condensate water that is formed on the evaporator side or externally added water) for evaporation on the condenser, provided that the device is also able to function without the use of additional water, using air only.

Heat pump
Encased assembly or assemblies designed as a unit, using a vapour compression cycle driven by an electric compressor, to provide delivery of heat.

Comfort air conditioner or heat pump
Air conditioner or heat pump to satisfy the comfort requirements of the occupants of the air conditioned room.

Packaged unit
factory assembly of components of refrigeration system fixed on a common mounting to form a discrete unit.

Single split unit
Factory assembly of components of refrigeration system fixed on two mountings to form a discrete matched functional unit.

Single-duct air conditioner
Air conditioner in which, during cooling or heating, the condenser (or evaporator) intake air is introduced from the space containing the unit and discharged outside this space.

Double-duct air conditioner
Air conditioner in which, during cooling or heating, the condenser (or evaporator) intake air is introduced from the outdoor environment to the unit by a duct and rejected to the outdoor environment by a second duct, and which is placed wholly inside the space to be conditioned, near a wall.

Total cooling capacity, Pc [kW]
Heat removed by the air conditioner from air per period of time.

Heating capacity, Ph [kW]
Heat supplied by the reverse cycle air conditioner to air per period of time.

Effective power input, Pe [kW]
Average electrical power input to the unit, within the defined interval of time, obtained from:

  • the power input for operation of the compressor and any power input for defrosting
  • the power input of all control and safety devices of the unit
  • the proportional power input of the conveying devices (e.g., fans, pumps) for ensuring the transport of the heat transfer media inside the air conditioner.

A-weighted sound power level, Lw [db(A)]
A single figure on a specific scale which can be related to the subjective assessment of the loudness of a noise.
