SCOPE OF THE PROGRAMME

The Eurovent Certified Performance (ECP) programme scope for Precision Cooling (ITCU), presently covers IT Cooling Units specifically designed and used to regulate air temperature, and optionally air humidity, of an enclosed space containing critical equipment such as IT equipment, or telecommunication equipment.

The IT cooling technologies considered in the scheme are Computer Room Air Conditioners with Direct Expansion (CRAC) and Computer Room Air Handler with Chilled Water (CRAH). HYBRID technologies pairing these technologies are also covered by the scope as an option. A full list of technology types considered in the scope is available in the Technical Certification Rules.

Technologies excluded from the scope include:

  • Packaged CRAC air cooled units
  • Multi-Split units
  • Partial IT Cooling units without any fan.

CERTIFY-ALL PRINCIPLE

Whenever a company participates in the programme for ITCU, all applicable products that are promoted by the applicant/participant to end-users, specifiers, trading companies, contractors by means of paper or electronic catalogue, price list or software within the scope of the programme, shall be certified. This is done in accordance with the Technical Certification Rules and includes all models in modular ranges. For the ITCU programme, the certify-all requirement as defined in the Certification Manual article 30 and 63-67 is applicable.

PRODUCT TYPE

Precision cooling is specifically designed and used to distribute cool air and regulate humidity levels in spaces, in buildings, containing IT or telecommunications equipment, such as data centers and server rooms. Precision cooling systems can come in a range of sizes and designs. The two main IT cooling technologies include Computer Room Air Conditioner with Direct Expansion (CRAC), and Computer Room Air Handler with Chilled Water (CRAH).

Computer Room Air Conditioner with Direct Expansion (CRAC)
These IT Cooling units use dedicated electrically driven compressors and refrigerant cooling coils. They use a direct expansion refrigeration cycle, to blow air over a cooling coil filled with refrigerant. Waste heat is expelled usually via an outside condenser unit.

Computer Room Air Handler with Chilled Water (CRAH)
These IT Cooling units use water coils for cooling without any dedicated compressors or refrigerant cooling coils. Air is blown over a cooling coil filled with chilled water, typically supplied by a chiller system. Waste heat is taken back to the chiller system to be expelled.

All IT Cooling Units are designed to operate 24/7 and are adept at dealing with:

  • High density heat loads
  • Delivering precise temperature and humidity control
  • Delivering high sensible cooling capacity and low latent cooling capacity
  • Reliability – system failures will be critical.

In the ITCU programme you can search for certified products under the product types:

  • Air cooled split
  • Chilled water
  • Water cooled.

The ITCU programme directory also includes a product type showing certified process chillers in the LCPHP programme that can be used to produce chilled water for CRAH units under the conditions given in the ITCU Technical Certification Rules document.

DEFINITIONS

While exploring our certified products you’ll come across a number of technical terms relating to certification. The below definitions help explain the search criteria in our certified product directory.

Certified product types in the ITCU programme have the following search criteria in common:

Brand
Brand name of the manufacturer.

Range
Listing of models with some common features.

Model
Model name.

Pc
Is the cooling capacity in kW. It is the heat given off from the heat transfer medium to the unit, over a set period of time.

Ps
Is the net sensible cooling capacity in kW. It is the capacity of the unit for removing sensible heat from the evaporator intake air.

Pe
Shows fan power consumption in kW. It is the electric power absorbed by the fan motor.

Qv
Is the supply airflow rate. Measured in m3/h.

EER
Is the Energy Efficiency Ratio. It is the ratio of the net total cooling capacity to the power input of the unit.

SHR
Is the net Sensible Heat Ratio. It’s the ratio of the net sensible cooling capacity to the net total cooling capacity.

Dpc
In chilled water systems, this is the water pressure drop. Measured in kPa.

Lw-in
Means A-weighted sound power level indoor side, expressed in dB(A).

Lw-du
Means A-weighted sound power level radiated by duct, expressed in dB(A).

MPS
Is the main power supply. Expressed as voltage (V) - phase - frequency (Hz).

Flow configuration
Is the airflow configuration. Options include room based cooling (RM), rack based cooling (RK) or row based cooling (RW).

Flow direction
Is the airflow direction. Options include down-flow (D), up-flow (U) or horizontal-flow (H).

Refrigerant
In air cooled split and water cooled systems this refers to the type of refrigerant used.

Dimensions Height and Footprint [h-Lxl]
Is the dimensions for the unit, expressed as the height of the unit – footprint.

Weight
Is the weight in kg.

Mounting type
In air cooled split and water cooled systems this is the mounting type. Options include split or packaged.

Filter grade (according to EN ISO 16890)
Is the filter grade according to EN ISO 16890:2016, plus the percentage of particles it removes e.g. Coarse 60%. Filter grades include:

  • ePM1 for particles 0.3 micron to 1 micron in size
  • ePM2.5 for particles 0.3 micron to 2.5 micron in size
  • ePM10 for particles 0.3 micron to 10 micron in size.
  • Coarse for particles 10 micron or larger.

💡 Good to know

When using the Advanced Search Criteria function you can search via total cooling capacity at thermal class 2 conditions (Pc), sensible capacity (Ps), energy efficiency ratio at thermal class 2 conditions (EER), sensible heat ratio at thermal class 2 conditions (SHR), flow configuration and flow direction. You can also search via airflow rate (Qv) in air cooled split product type, and via refrigerant for both air cooled split and water cooled product types.
