SCOPE OF THE PROGRAMME

The Eurovent Certified Performance (ECP) programme scope for Heat Interface Units (HIUs) applies to heat interface units, defined as a packaged unit including at least one Domestic Hot Water (DHW) heat exchanger and control elements.

The HIU may contain:

  • An additional heat exchanger for heating
  • Balancing elements
  • One heating pump
  • Metering possibilities.

The heat interface units covered by the scheme are 3-pipe configurations. HIUs with DHW capacity level above 70 kW are not covered by the certification scope. CERTIFY-ALL PRINCIPLE

Whenever a company participates in the programme for heat interface units, all units that are promoted by the applicant/participant to end-users, specifiers, trading companies, contractors by means of paper or electronic catalogue, price list or software within the scope of the programme, shall be certified. This is done in accordance with the Technical Certification Rules and includes all models in modular ranges. For the HIU programme, the certify-all requirement as defined in the Certification Manual is applicable not only to the European market but worldwide also.

PRODUCT TYPE

Heat interface units are used for direct hot water, or direct hot water and heating for buildings. HIUs are a packaged unit, similar in size and appearance to a domestic gas boiler, installed as part of a heat network (district heating or communal heating scheme). The heat network provides a centralised heat source, which generates and moves hot water via a network of insulated pipes. The properties served by the heat network need to be able to control their individual hot water / heating requirements, and so a heat interface unit is installed in each individual property to provide domestic hot water / heating on demand. 

Heat networks can be of different sizes – providing heat and hot water to whole towns and even cities, or a single building such as a block of residential high-rise flats. Heat networks can be used in a range of applications including commercial office blocks in built-up city centres, off-grid industrial parks, residential estates, hospitals and healthcare, shopping centres and educational campuses etc.

The HIUs in the ECP programme are for use in individual domestic dwellings and include one or more heat exchangers, and control elements, to transfer heat from a primary (heat network) to a secondary system. The secondary system is the space heating or domestic hot water system within the dwelling, or other space. HIUs come in three main types:

Direct Heating
In direct heating, the primary system and secondary system for space heating are directly connected through the HIU without any heat exchanger. Primary and secondary systems are supplied with the same water and pressure. Space heating temperature flow isn’t controlled by a mixing loop.

Direct Heating Mixed
In direct heating mixed, the primary system and secondary system for space heating are directly connected through the HIU without any heat exchanger. Primary and secondary systems are supplied with the same water and pressure. Space heating temperature flow is controlled by a mixing loop. 

Indirect Heating
In indirect heating the primary system and secondary system for space heating are indirectly connected through the HIU with a heat exchanger separating both systems. Primary and secondary systems are not supplied with the same water and pressure.

CERTIFIED CHARACTERISTICS

The following performance data declared by the applicant/participant are verified by tests:

All units:

  • Maximal DHW capacity in kW (kilowatt)
  • Return temperature during normal DHW tapping in °C (Celsius)
  • Minimal DHW flow rate I l/min (litres/minute)
  • >DHW reaction time in s (second)
  • DHW Standby heat losses in kW (kilowatt).

Direct heating:

  • Capacity on temperature delta of 20 K in kW (kilowatt).
  • Heat losses in kW (kilowatt).

Direct heating mixed:

  • Capacity on temperature delta of 10 K in kW (kilowatt).
  • Heat losses in kW (kilowatt).

Indirect heating:

  • Difference between primary return temperature and secondary return temperature at 4kW in °C (Celsius).
  • Heat losses in kW (kilowatt).
