Eurovent Certita Certification (ECC) was proud to sponsor the 39th National Conference of the Italian Association of Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, Heating and Ventilation (AiCARR), on 8th September 2023. Held at the Aula Magna Congress Centre, University Federico II, in Naples, Italy, the theme of this year’s conference was, ‘Energy requalification of building stock: technical and financial solutions.’

The conference focussed on the important issue of energy retrofitting of buildings, in light of the draft revision of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) and the "Fit for 55" package of measures to reduce CO emissions by 2030. While the draft confirms and renews the growing interest in new buildings with zero emissions, it is also strongly oriented towards the redevelopment of existing building stock. Considering that the vast majority of buildings in Italy are already built and, of the current building stock, more than 80% were built before the laws on the containment of energy consumption were in force, there is huge potential for energy efficiency gains.

After a slow start, the country has now seen an explosion of energy requalification interventions thanks to an incentive policy (Superbonus, Ecobonus, Sismabonus, Facades bonus, Building renovation bonus 50% etc). Riding on the wave of enthusiasm for energy efficient change, the AiCARR recognise the wealth of skills, information, technology and experience that is needed to continue on this path. Based on these reflections, the AiCARR’s 39th National Conference offered an exciting programme of presentations and papers, delivered by leading experts in the field. The conference programme included:

10.00 - Welcome address by Claudio Zilio, President AiCARR, and esteemed guests
10.15 - Award presentations
10.30 - Key Note: ‘From the first EPBD to the Case Green Directive. Outcomes and criticalities of twenty years of technical, legislative and procedural measures for the decarbonisation of the built environment’, by Fabrizio Ascione, University of Naples Federico II
11.15 - Parallel sessions with various speakers on ‘Energy requalification of historic and public buildings’, and ‘Energy requalification of residential buildings.’
13.10 - Networking lunch
14.00 - Key Note: ‘GREENROAD: Growing Energy Efficiency through Roundtables Addresses. A community working to promote financing for energy efficiency in buildings, ‘ by Francesca Rosati, Coordinator Sustainable Banking Transition ABI Lab, Rome
14.45 - Parallel sessions with various speakers on ‘Financial and economic analysis of redevelopment interventions’, and ‘The use of simulation software for energy requalification.’
16.55 - Conference closing speech.

The conference offered an important opportunity for professionals in the sector to share skills, information and experiences, and to outline intervention strategies for greater resilience of building-plant systems and new financial and incentive solutions. Eurovent Certita Certification was pleased to sponsor such an important event, which highlighted the need for energy efficient and sustainable HVAC solutions.
