Scope of the programme

This Certification Programme applies to air-cooled and water-cooled rooftops rated below 100 kW. Models with cooling or heating capacity from 100 kW up to 200 kW can be certified as an option.

Models of rooftops using gas burners for heating shall only be certified for cooling.

Definitions

Rooftop

A rooftop unit is defined by the following features:

  • Comfort air conditioner
  • Packaged unit assembled in factory
  • Common single frame
  • Direct expansion system
  • Air-cooled condenser with axial fan (for air-cooled rooftops) or water cooled condenser (for water cooled rooftops)
  • Designed to operate permanently outdoors with the possibility to be installed on the roof curb for vertical flow
  • Cold or warm supply air provided through a duct

Basic models groups (BMG)

Basic Model Groups (BMGs) are defined by units which are essentially the same in terms of:

  • function and application (example: cooling only)
  • basic components (fans, coils, compressors and motors)
  • performance (capacities with not more than 5% difference)

Measured and rated data

All definitions are in accordance with definitions given in EN 14511 (2013).

Testing Requirements

Standard ratings shall be established at the standard rating conditions specified in the following section. All standard ratings shall be verified by tests conducted in accordance with the following standards:

Performance testing

EN 14511 (2013): "Air conditioners, liquid chilling packages and heat pumps with electrically driven compressors for space heating and cooling".

Acoustical testing

EN 12102 "Air conditioners, liquid chilling packages, heat pumps and dehumidifiers with electrically driven compressors for space heating and cooling - Measurement of airbone noise - Determination of the sound power level".
Rating requirements

Performance ratings claimed by manufacturers shall be verified by tests performed in one of Eurovent Independent Laboratories or in Participant Laboratory (see IV.3). The rooftop units shall be tested and rated at specific conditions, the closest possible to their application. The following specifications will be used during the tests:

  • Test unit shall be installed with vertical or horizontal airflow in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications
  • Indoor airflow should be in relation with cooling capacity, therefore expressed in m3/h/kW. It shall be between 170 and 210m3/h/kW
  • No fresh air shall be used for rating, neither in cooling, nor in heating.
  • The operating conditions shall be used following Table 2.
  • Allowable deviations from set values are given in EN 14511.
  • Testing shall be carried without mixing damper.
  • The rated airflow rate given by the manufacturer shall be set and the resulting external static pressure (ESP) measured. This ESP shall be greater than the minimum value given in Table 1. For equipment tested without an air filter installed, the minimum external static pressure shall be increased by 10Pa.

* For units designated for cooling mode, the water flow rate obtained during the test at standard rating conditions in cooling is used.

** Same airflow and same available pressure as for the thermal test shall be used.
Certified characteristics

The following performance characteristics shall be certified and verified by tests:

a)        Total Cooling Capacity

b)        Heating Capacity

c)         EER

d)        COP

e)        Eurovent Energy Efficiency class (cooling and heating)

f)          Condenser water pressure drop (only for water cooled rooftops)

g)        A-weighted Sound Power Level outside

h)        A-weighted Sound Power Level in supply duct.

Energy Efficiency Classification

The purpose of ECC Energy Efficiency Classes is to simplify the selection of the best units for each type of Rooftops. The classification is entirely voluntary, not related to any European Directive. The energy efficiency of Rooftops is designated by "ECC Class A" or "ECC Class B" in catalogues and in the ECC Directory of Certified Products.

Important:

The Standard EN 14511 has been reviewed in 2013. For a same product, the new Energy Efficiencies (EER and COP) can be decreased in comparison to previous efficiencies (from EN 14511:2011).

Moreover, the Energy Efficiency thresholds, presented below, have not changed.

As a consequence, a same product could be designated by "ECC Class A" in 2012, and "ECC Class B" currently.
